Soundbars (sound bars), or Sound Projectors as they are also known, are a revolutionary way to add wireless home cinema surround sound to your current viewing experience. The main benefit of a Soundbar is that you don't require a multitude of speakers, as you would with a traditional 5.1 channel surround sound installation. With a Soundbar, there is just one piece of hardware which does all the work of those centre, front and rear speakers. Of course, you can still add an extra subwoofer if you're a bass fiend Different Soundbars use slightly different technology but at the simplest level, the sound is projected out from the system in a way to envelope the viewing/listening position meaning that the sound will surround you like a standard 5.1 system Due to the fact that there are no speakers physically behind you, a Soundbar system will never quite match a more traditional one but as the technology develops, the differences are becoming less and less. Plus, if you have a Plasma or LCD television, especially one that is mounted on a wall, a single Soundbar speaker is the perfect partner. Some Soundbars also come with a built-in DVD player meaning you can reduce yor component count, i.e. clutter, even more - very wife friendly!
